All Natural Deodorant

Cancer Recovery: All-Natural Deodorants

By Lisa Lurie

For many years the debate has raged over whether aluminum in antiperspirant is safe, particularly for women fighting estrogen-positive breast cancer.

That’s a complicated question that we can’t answer but what we can do is offer you some all-natural alternatives to try. When it comes to underarm care, it isn’t “one size fits all.” There are many companies that make all natural deodorants. Choosing one that works well for you may mean trying a few different brands.

As always, please check with your oncologist before using any of these deodorants before or after surgery, during chemotherapy and radiation treatment and throughout recovery.

One of our favorite deodorants is Alra Non-Metallic Deodorant. Aluminum-free, it glides on easily to absorb odors and sweat. Maxine Shangold, a clean beauty advocate suggests that women make a “Clean Beauty Swap” from harmful, toxic personal care products like shampoos, moisturizers and makeup to safer, clean products free of parabens and other dangerous chemicals. We asked her to share her expertise and story with us. Read her blog, Cancer Survivorship: Why Clean Beauty Matters.

In addition to Alra, here are some alternatives that women in our cancer community have told us that they use and like:

  • Native Deodorant
  • Dove Aluminum Free Deodorant for Women
  • Tom’s Of Maine Long Lasting Deodorant

Toms Deodorant

Share with us your “sweaty little secret” and tell us what natural deodorants work for you. Check out our Life & Style Recovery Boutique for more  wellness and recovery skincare products .
