If you are going to have breast surgery like a mastectomy, lumpectomy or reconstruction, or chest surgery, ask your doctor if you will require drains post surgery to remove excess fluid.
Many women go home from the hospital with surgical drains which include tubes & bulbs.
One of the trickiest parts of dealing with drains is how to disguise them under clothes and to feel comfortable that they are secure. A great solution is clothing that is specifically designed with interior pockets to manage drains. Post-op recovery pajamas, camisoles, wraps and cover-ups are some of the styles available.
Another “good to know” product is a drain belt. Designed to be worn under pajamas or clothes, this stretchy belt has velcro for a close fit and drain pockets that are removable. This detachable belt can be worn above or below your waist.
Post-op drains are a drain (we know) but hopefully these helpful products will keep your spirits from plunging. (sorry.)
